Crews tackle large fire in Cowbridge involving 400 tonnes of clothing

A large fire has broken out in Cowbridge involving around 400 tonnes of clothing ready to be recycled.

Fire crews received the call at 23.25 on 19 May about a fire at the rear of Forest Products in Crossways, Cowbridge.

When crews arrived on scene they were faced with a large developed fire and immediately requested additional resources.

At the height of the fire there were 38 firefighters and Tactical Officers on scene tackling the blaze as well as nine engines.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews worked quickly in “challenging conditions” to ensure the fire did not spread to nearby buildings.

Officers worked through the night and are still on scene on Monday morning.

Local residents have been advised to keep doors and windows shut due to the amount of smoke.
