Newport secure Leicester City FA Cup clash after Wrexham victory

Newport County AFC will face Premier League Leicester City in the third round of the FA Cup after a triumphant win against 10-man Wrexham.

Luke Young was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Mickey Demetriou in the first half leaving the hosts to take advantage after the break.

Goals from Padraig Amond, Jamille Matt, an own-goal from Mark Carrington and Dan Butler secured a 4-0 victory at Rodney Parade.

County broke the deadlock at the 49 minute mark after the ball bounced into the back of the net off after an unaware Amond.

That took him to 12 goals for the season for the Irishman, sending him joint top of the goalscoring charts with Jamille Matt, but Amond was swiftly put back into second place as Matt struck just before the hour.

Any lingering fears of a Wrexham comeback were swiftly put to bed after a Mark Carrington own goal, and a stoppage time goal from Butler.

Newport County will now face Leicester city in the third round in January.
