New figures have revealed that one in five women in Wales cut a food group from their diet when they were just 15 years old.
Nearly half of women surveyed said they chose to remove a food group because they thought it would help them to lose weight.
Some have said they were influenced by the people around them while others said they look to fashion and lifestyle influencers and celebrities on social media for information on diets and food.
A Welsh dietitian is warning that skipping meals or cutting out key food groups can lead to problems with fertility, bone health and emotional wellbeing.
New research has revealed that many women have been concerned about their diet since they were 14 years old.
- 1 in 5 first cut a food group from their diet when they were 15
- 1 in 5 young women have cut dairy from their diet
- More than a third (39%) first removed a food group because they thought it would help them to lose weight
- More than half (58%) regularly skip breakfast
- More than 1 in 10 (15%) started to worry about food or consider what they were eating with regards to their diet when they were 14

Dietitian Aisling Pigott said serious problems can arise from this kind of dieting.
For a healthy meal, Aisling Pigott recommends eating a combination of starchy carbohydrates like pasta or potatoes, protein, (whether it is meat, fish or vegan alternatives like nuts, beans and lentils) and fruit and vegetables.
